SWEDEN'S 'PIRATE' RADIO OFF THE COAST...IT'S ON BOARD THE CHEETA TWO WHICH HAS HAD TO?

  • Description

SWEDEN'S 'PIRATE' RADIO OFF THE COAST...IT'S ON BOARD THE CHEETA TWO WHICH HAS HAD TO PUT IN TO MALMO HARBOUR AFTER BEING DAMAGED IN A FIERCE STORM.

STORMS ARE A PART OF CHEETA TWO'S LIFE -- BUT NOT ONLY AT SEA. THE SWEDISH AUTHORITIES HAVE OFTEN TRIED TO STOP OFF-SHORE BROADCASTING AND THE OWNER, MRS. BRITT WADNER, SEEN HERE, HAS IN A HIGH COURT APPEAL AGAINST A 3-MONTH GAOL SENTENCE FOR CONTINUING TO BROADCAST.

THE STATION ON BOARD IS CALLED RADIO SOUTH, BUT AT THE MOMENT IT'S "GONE WEST", WITH THE RADIO TRANSMITTER WATERLOGGED BY THE STORM AND SOME OF THE SOUND GEAR SMASHED UP.

WHAT THE LAW HAS NOT FULLY SUCCEEDED IN, THE ELEMENTS HAVE. RADIO SOUTH IS SILENT, NO MORE BOMBARDMENTS OF ADVERTISING AND 'POP' MUSIC FOR THE TIME BEING. BUT WHILE THE APPEAL COURT DELIBERATES ON A PROBLEM THAT BRITAIN AND HOLLAND HAS TOO, THE FANS, THE LISTENERS ALONG THE COAST OF SWEDEN AND DENMARK WHO HAVE REGULARLY TUNES IN ARE MASSING IN SUPPORT OF RADIO SOUTH. IN ONE DAY ALONE, 10,000 DEMONSTRATED IN MALMO IN FAVOUR OF COMMERCIAL RADIO IN ADDITION TO THE STATE-OWNED RADIO SWEDEN.
