  • Description

Many passengers on Moscow and Leningrad subway trains have no idea that they sometimes ride in trains driven by automatic devices, not human beings.

A standby driver is in the cab only to watch the work of the computer control board.

On a pre-set prigram the automation drives the train to a strict schedule. It starts the train, decelerates it slowly before stops and opens and shuts the doors.

If there is a delay during the stop, the clever machine catches up with the schedule during the run before the next stop.

"It works as the best of the dribers", is the comment of the subway staff.

Tests and test running of the new automatic system for control of trains on Moscow subway lines have proved the automatic device to be reliavle and easy to service.

The system was designed by scientists in the city of Penza on the basis of electronics and computing techniques.

Its exploitation will make it possible to save large amounts of power, to carry many more passengers on subway lines and to make train driving easier.
