Background: Girls who were due to report for conscription demonstrated in front the Tel Hashomir army receiving depot, protesting against govt reform bill which would make it easier for girls claiming religious conviction to be exempted from army service. A conscript says in Eng. that they are demonstrating to demonstrating to demand that everyone liable does military service, and those asking religious exemption do two years of national service.

The Begin govt. is much embarrassed over this subject, having had to fight a motion of "No confidence" and impose party discipline to win a majority. The problem is that passage of the liberalising bill is important to the religious parties, essential for Begin to stay in power.
