    ADMIRAL SIR DAVID LUCE, BRITAIN'S FIRST SEA LORD AND CHIEF OF NAVAL STAFF, WHO ARRIVED IN SINGAPORE OVER THE WEEKEND, ACCOMPANIED BY LADY LUCE AND A NAVAL ASSISTANT, VISITED THE FAR EAST COMMAND HEADQUARTERS AT PHOENIX PARK ON MARCH 2.

    ADMIRAL SIR DAVID LUCE IS NO STRANGER TO SINGAPORE. HE WAS FORMERLY COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF, FAR EAST FLEET AND THE FIRST COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF, FAR EAST COMMAND, WHICH WAS SET UP IN NOVEMBER 1962.

    ON HIS ARRIVAL AT THE HEADQUARTERS, ADMIRAL LUCE WAS MET BY ADMIRAL SIR VARYL BEGG, THE PRESENT COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF, FAR EAST COMMAND. HE ALSO MET TOP BRITISH SERVICES COMMANDERS AND WAS UNDERSTOOD TO HAVE DISCUSSED THE PRESENT GENERAL DEFENCE SITUATION IN MALAYSIA.

    THE FOLLOWING DAY, MARCH 3, ADMIRALS LUCE AND BEGG FLEW TO KUALA LUMPUR IN A ROYAL AIR FORCE PLANE FOR A MEETING WITH THE BRITISH HIGH COMMISSIONER, LORD HEAD, THE MALAYSIAN DEPUTY PREMIER, TUN ABDUL RAZAK, AND THE MALAYSIAN CHIEF OF ARMED FORCES.

    THE DISCUSSIONS AT THE HEADQUARTERS, FAR EAST COMMAND, WILL BE CONTINUED ON MARCH 4 BEFORE ADMIRAL LUCE LEAVES FOR AUSTRALIA WHERE HE WILL REPRESENT BRITAIN CHIEFS OF STAFF COMMITTEE TO BE HELD IN CANBERRA.
