  • Description

ABOUT 300 MEMBERS OF THE "JAPAN PEACE FOR VIETNAM" COMMITTEE DEMONSTRATED THROUGH THE STREETS OF TOKYO YESTERDAY (OCTOBER 7) IN PROTEST AGAINST AMERICAN INVOLVEMENT IN VIETNAM. THE DEMONSTRATION ENDED OUTSIDE THE GATES OF THE UNITED STATES EMBASSY.

THE DEMONSTRATION WAS PEACEFUL BUT HUNDREDS OF POLICE WERE MOBILIZED AS A PRECAUTION. ARMOURED CARS ACCOMPANIED THE MARCHERS THROUGH THE STREETS. THIS WAS IN CONTRAST TO TODAY'S DEMONSTRATION IN WHICH STONE THROWING STUDENTS CLASHED WITH RIOT POLICE AS THE PRIME MINISTER, MR EISAKU SATO, DEPARTED ON A 15-DAY TOUR OF AUSTRALIA AND ASIA. THE STUDENTS WERE PROTESTING AGAINST MR SATO'S DECISION TO INCLUDE SOUTH VIETNAM IN HIS TRIP.
