  • Description

In it, Dr. Ralph Bunche sharply criticizes Negroes who preach racism as well as white supremacists.

The speech was part of a United Nations Week observance at Jackson, Miss., last night (October 23). Bunche is United Nations Under Secretary for special political affairs.

He lashed out at Gov. Ross Barnett, of Mississippi and Gov. George Wallace of Alabama. But he was equally critical of two Negroes, Congressman Adam Clayton Powell, of New York's Harlem and Malcolm X, a leader of the Black Muslims, a Negro extremist group. The speech was delivered at Tougaloo Southern Christian College at Jackson.

Bunche's chief point against Powell and Malcolm X was that they are "racists" for advocating separation of the races.
