    This year's International Women's Festival has been marked in Mauritania by an international exhibition.

    The fair was opened on Thursday (8 March) by Mauritania's President Ould Daddah.

    The exhibition has been organised by Mauritania's "Committee of the 8th of March".

    SYNOPSIS: In the capital of Mauritania, Nouakchott, President Ould Daddah arrived on Thursday to open an international exhibition. It coincided with this year's International Women's Festival.

    After officially opening the Fair, President Ould Daddah - and other official guests - walked around the exhibits. A number of foreign diplomats were at the exhibition - which featured displays from many African countries as well as countries further afield.

    The exhibition was organised by a group called the "Committee of the 8th of March".

    Earlier, President Ould Daddah had attended a ceremony in Nouakchott formally launching the International Women's Festival. That ceremony was held in the National Assembly building in the capital.

    At the exhibition grounds Senegal, France the Soviet Union, the People's Republic of China and Egypt were among the countries represented.
