Background: A surprise fall by Commander David Scott down the upper slopes of the Hadley Rille depression marked the Apollo 15 astronauts' third and final day of exploration and examination on the moon's surface on Monday (2 August). Scott, and his fellow astronaut Jim Irwin, had returned in their moon-buggy for a further look at the Moon's "Grand Canyon"...which is a mile across, and 1200 feet (400 metres) deep...and were looking over the edge, when Scott tripped over a lunar rock. After tumbling only a short distance down the gentle upper slopes of Hadley Rille, Scott picked himself up and dusted himself down before resuming the planned extra-vehicular-activity (EVA). During this assignment the television camera mounted on the moon-buggy was sending back to earth some of the clearest colour pictures yet received from the moon.
