    Background: October 5th. The Japanese Industrial Exhibition opens in the Exhibition Hall in Peking.

    The current exhibition, mainly consisting of products of the machine-building industry, is the largest post-war exhibition Japan has sent abroad.

    The opening speech is made by Tanzan Ishibashi, President of the exhibition. He says that the normalisation of relations between Japan and China and the cooperation between the peoples of the two countries have an inestimable bearing on Asian and world peace. He expresses the heartfelt hope that the present exhibition will make tremendous contributions towards this cause.

    Kazua Suzuki, representative of the exhibition's sponsoring organisations says that the exhibition points out a clear direction for Japanese economic circles who wish to see an independent development of Japan's economy and who wish to develop Japan-China trade.

    Nan Han-chen, President of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade says that the present exhibition will undoubtedly further strengthen the friendship between the Chinese and Japanese people and promote the technical and trade interflow between the two countries.

    Speeches are made by Eiichi Shukutani, head of the japanese exhibition group; Chu Tu-nan, president of the Chinese People's Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries; and Kinkazu Saionji, the Japanese Peace Champion residing in Peking. They all wish the exhibition success and the daily growth of the friendship between the Chinese and Japanese peoples.
