    PRESIDENT KENNETH KAUNDA OF ZAMBIA AND THE PRIME MINISTER OF SOMALIA, MOHAMMED IBRAHIM EGAL, ARRIVED IN NAIROBI YESTERDAY (20 FEBRUARY) FOR ROUTINE TALKS WITH PRESIDENT JOMO KENYATTA ON THE KENYA-SOMALIA BORDER SITUATION.

    PRESIDENT KENYATTA MET THE SOMALIA PRIME MINISTER AT NAIROBI AIRPORT AND SHORTLY AFTERWARDS, THE TWO MEN GREETED THE ZAMBIAN PRESIDENT. THEY INSPECTED A GUARD OF HONOUR MOUNTED BY THE KENYAN ARMY.

    FOLLOWING MEDIATION FROM DR. KAUNDA IN 1967, THE MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT ENDED THE FOUR-YEAR DISPUTE OVER SOMALIA'S CLAIM TO PART OF KENYA'S NORTH-EASTERN PROVINCE. PRESIDENT KAUNDA WILL AGAIN BE CHAIRMAN AT THE MEETING PLANNED FOR TODAY WHEN THE LEADERS WILL ALSO DISCUSS NEWLY-ESTABLISHED TRADE LINKS BETWEEN KENYA AND SOMALIA AND PROPOSALS TO EXTEND THOSE LINKS.

    PRESIDENT KENYATTA TOLD AN AIRPORT PRESS CONFERENCE THAT THE TWO NEIGHBOURS HAD ALREADY ESTABLISHED DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS AND CO-OPERATION BETWEEN THEM WAS CONTINUING TO GROW. PRIME MINISTER EGAL EXPRESSED THANKS TO PRESIDENT KAUNDA FOR THE PART HE HAD PLAYED IN BRINGING KENYA AND SOMALIA TOGETHER.
