Background: Designed by a London physiotherapist, Mr. Kenneth Harris new cut-cost hospital equipment, seen on film, is saving Britain's National Health Service thousands of pounds a year.

A frame and stretcher combination costing GBP5 - seen on film - for treatment of slipped discs and lumbar strain replaces equipment costing GBP200.

An exercise bed which enables four patients to be treated at once with the aid of easily fitted attachments, has been designed to eliminate unnecessary lifting of patients in the gymnasium, but a flat steel plinth can be fitted further from the ground for easier cleaning and bed-making if the equipment is used in wards.

Other cut-price equipment includes walking machines, special steps to teach patients how to get on and off buses and mobile ladders and trolleys to lower spastic and polio patients into hot water baths for exercises.
