    INTRODUCTION: The President of Gambia, Sir Dawda Jawara, has been on a private visit to Ghana.

    SYNOPSIS: He arrived at Accra airport on Wednesday (16 March) to be met by the Ghanaian Head of State, General Ignatius Acheampong, and the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant-General F.W.K Akuffo. In a short welcoming speech, General Acheampong said that even though Sir Dawda's visit was a private one, the opportunity would be taken to discuss matters of mutual interest. Sir Dawda replied saying Ghana was his second home. While in Ghana, Sir Dawda was due to attend the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Achimoto school where he was to a guest speaker. The school was founded by the then Prince of Wales in 1927.

    The present Prince of Wales, Prince Charles, heir to the British throne, was attending the celebrations. He's been Ghana representing the Royal Family on an eight-day visit as guest of the Government.

    President Jawara and General Acheampong held talks latter, and it was announced afterwards they had agreed to work for the rapid development of trade ties.
