SYNOPSIS: The Hilton Hotel, Cyprus: scene Tuesday of a new Peace move.
United Nations Envoy Dr Gunnar Jarring, on the right, met the Israeli Ambassador in Cyprus, Mr Rahamin Timor. Later it was announced that Dr Jarring will visit Israel on Friday. The UN envoy went to Cyprus from Cairo where he had two days of talks with Egyptian leaders.
Speculation is now growing in Nicosia that Dr Jarring is making a new bid to get fresh talks started between Arabs and Israelis for a Middle East settlement.
Tuesday's meeting lasted just twenty minutes. Afterwards Mr Timor confirmed that they discussed Dr Jarring's visit to Israel. An Israeli Government statement from Tel Aviv said later that Dr Jarring had proposed the visit, and that the Foreign Minister had "accepted the proposals".
Dr Jarring used Cyprus as his base during his effort for Middle East peace in 1968 and '69.
