  • Description

About 20,000 men and women assembled at Amman Stadium in Jordan on Thursday (29 July) to express their loyalty to King Hussein, and protest at recent statements by President Habib Bourguiba of Tunisia.

The Jordanian Government decided earlier this month to break off diplomatic relations with Tunisia after President Bourguiba described Jordan as an "artificial state".

The sole political party in Jordan, the Arab National Union Party, called on Jordanians to attend and participate in a National Festival to refute the Tunisian claims.

Among the dignitaries at the festival were the Jordanian Prime Minister, Mr. Zeid Al-Rifai, government ministers and executive members of the Arab National Union party.
