    WEST GERMANY TODAY (SATURDAY) WON THE GRAND PRIX DES NATIONS AT THE ROTTERDAM HORSE SHOW, WITH THE UNITED STATES TAKING SECOND PLACE AND GREAT BRITAIN THIRD.

    TEAMS FROM SEVEN COUNTRIES - HOLLAND, WEST GERMANY, GREAT BRITAIN, BELGIUM, IRELAND, POLAND AND THE UNITED STATES - TOOK PART IN THE EVENT, ONE OF THE LAST IMPORTANT INTERNATIONAL HORSE JUMPING TRIALS BEFORE THE OLYMPIC GAMES.

    EACH TEAM CONSISTED OF FOUR RIDERS WHO COVERED TWO ROUNDS OF THE COURSE. THE BEST THREE PERFORMANCES IN EACH ROUND COUNTED TOWARDS THE FINAL RESULT. WEST GERMANY HAD A TOTAL OF 6 3/4 FAULTS, THE UNITED STATES HAD 7 1/2 AND GREAT BRITAIN 16 1/2 FAULTS.

    THE SUCCESSFUL WEST GERMAN TEAM WAS MADE UP OF HERMANN SCHRIDDE, ON ILONA; KURT JARASINSKY, ON TORRO; ALWIN SCHOCKEMOEHLE, ON ZUKUNFT, AND HANS GUENTHER WINKLER, ON CORNELIA.

    THE TROPHIES WERE PRESENTED BY PRINCESS BEATRIX, OF HOLLAND, WHO IS A KEEN FOLLOWER OF EQUESTERIAN SPORTS.
