    MISS MARY KORANTENG, A FORMER PARLIAMENTARIAN AND CHAIRMAN OF THE GHANA STATE FISHING CORPORATION, IS ONE OF THE PEOPLE WHOSE FINANCIAL ASSETS ARE BEING INVESTIGATED BY THE MANYO PLANGE COMMISSION.

    THE COMMISSIONERS, LED BY MR. J.S. MANYO PLANGE, A FORMER JUDGE, WERE TOLD THAT MISS KORANTENG SPENT A TOTAL OF GBP750 ANNUALLY ON SUPPORTING HERSELF AND HER FAMILY.

    SHE SAID IN EVIDENCE THAT SHE OWNED TWO HOUSES, ONE IN WHICH SHE RESIDED AND THE OTHER WHICH WAS LET AT AN ANNUAL RENTAL OF 1,800 NEW CEDIS (GBP900 STERLING) HEP OTHER ASSETS INCLUDED A PLOT OF LAND, A COCOA FARM AND TWO CARS.

    MISS KORANTENG TOLD THE COMMISSION THAT BEFORE SHE ENTERED PARLIAMENT SHE OWNED CASH AND PROPERTY TO THE VALUE OF GBP3,000 STERLING. DURING HER FIVE YEARS IN PARLIAMENT SHE RECEIVED HER MEMBER'S SALARY AND A HOUSING ALLOWANCE, AMOUNTING TO ABOUT GBP1,800 STERLING A YEAR.
