Background: LONDON'S BIGGEST ROYAL CHARITY FILM PREMIERE OF THE YEAR -- THE ONLY ONE QUEEN ELIZABETH HAS ATTENDED IN 1967 -- THIS EVENING LAUNCHED A PICTURE WHICH THE MAKERS THINK MAYBE AN ALL-TIME MONEY EARNER. THE FILM IS "DOCTOR DOLITTLE" AND IT STARS REX HARRISON AND A HOST OF ANIMALS.

THE LONDON CRITICS WERE UNANIMOUS IN THEIR PRAISE OF THE PICTURE WHICH COST GBP7 MILLION TO PRODUCE. IT'S THE STORY OF A MAN WHO DECIDES THAT HE PREFERS ANIMALS TO ???, SO HE DUMP HIS HUMAN PATIENTS AND SETS OUT TO LEARN 2,000 ANIMAL LANGUAGES SO THAT HE CAN TALK TO THEM IN THEIR OWN GRUNTS, CRIES AND SQUEALS.

MORE THAN 1,200 ANIMALS TAKE PART IN THE FILM FROM GIRAFFES TO MICE. THE FILM TOOK MORE THAN A YEAR TO MAKE AND MR. HARRISON'S CO-STARS COMMENTED ON HIS ENDLESS PATIENCE DEALING WITH THE ANIMALS. SOME SCENES HAD TO BE RESHOT TEN TIMES.

RICHARD ATTENBOROUGH PLAYS A ??? CIRCUS OWNER IN THE FILM, WHO FINANCES A VOYAGE TO A SOUTH SEA ISLAND BY EXHIBITING A TWO HEADED LLAMA.

ANTHONY NEWLEY PLAYS AN IRISH CAT'S MEAT MAN WHO GOES ON THE VOYAGE TO THE SOUTH SEA ISLAND, AND ALSO ON THE JOURNEY ARE SAMANTHA EGGAR AND WILLIAM DIX, A CHILD ACTOR.

QUEEN ELIZABETH MET THE STARS AT THE PREMIERE. SHE ASKED MR. HARRISON ABOUT THE PROBLEMS OF FILMING WITH ANIMALS. "I HAD TO HAVE CONTACT WITH THEM," HE TOLD HER, "AND IN THE END I FELT I HAD ACHIEVED IT."
