Background: On the second day of the fifth Test against the West Indies, in Trinidad, Mar 26, England batted aggressively to score 341 for 5 by the tea-break. Then West Indian spin-bowler Ramadhin went to work with a 4 wickets for 13 runs spell, and England were all out for 393. It was a good score, but not so impressive as had seemed likely earlier.

England's Vice-captain, Subba-Row, was caught by Hunte off fast bowler Hall, seemingly anticipating the batsman's stroke. Barrington - who has retired hurt four times in this Test series - was nevertheless aggressive against the fast men, fiercely hooking three bumpers in the first over he received. When he did go - for 69 - it was to the guile of spinner Ramadhin, not to a pace-bowler. He was the first of Ramadhin's victims. Only Parks, who scored 43, and was eventually caught and bowled by Sobers, had an answer to Ramadhin, including one six.

It seems that this Test will be drawn, and England - now leading the series with one victory and three draws - will register their first series victory in the West Indies.
