  • Description

PRESIDENT KENYATTA OF KENYA HAS ACCEPTED THE RESIGNATION OF HIS LEFT-WING VICE PRESIDENT, MR. OGINGA ODINGA, WHO ANNOUNCED HIS RESIGNATION (SOF) YESTERDAY (THURSDAY) AT A NEWS CONFERENCE IN NAIROBI. MR. ODINGA SAID HE WAS ALSO LEAVING THE RULING KENYA AFRICAN NATIONAL UNION (JANU) - KENYA'S ONLY POLITICAL PARTY - BUT WOULD KEEP HIS SEAT IN PARLIAMENT.

MR. ODINGA BEGAN HIS STATEMENT TO THE PRESS BY CLAIMING THAT SINCE KENYA HAD WON ITS INDEPENDENCE, THE COLONIALIST "ENEMY" HAD GONE UNDERGROUND AND NOW AIMED AT ENSNARING THE NEW LEADERS OF KENYA BY EXPLODING THEIR WEAKEST POINTS. HE WENT ON...

(PRESIDENT KENYATTA'S OFFICE LATER ISSUED A STATEMENT WARNING AGAINST ATTEMPTS TO UNDERMINE THE GOVERNMENT'S AUTHORITY AND SAYING THE PUBLIC MUST ASK ITSELF WHETHER IT WAS THE GOVERNMENT OR MR. ODINGA WHO HAD "REACHED THE POINT OF NO RETURN".)
