  • Description

A group of new recruits in a company of the Chinese People's Liberation Army practises shooting.

This woman soldier is called Chao Chin.

The new recruits are members of the Central Song and Dance theatre, some are playwrights, others directors and young actors. They are here to study the fine qualities of the Chinese People's Liberation Army men and to gain a deeper understanding of their martial life so that they can more realistically bring the army men to life on the stage. Chinese artists have consistently kept in close touch with the workers, peasants and soldiers in response to Chairman Mao Tze-tung's call: 'Go into the heat of struggle' which he made in 1942.

There is no difference between famous actors and ordinary soldiers. They are as close together as brothers and sisters.

The dancers enthusiastically help the armymen improve their amateur performances.

Their period of study and training completed, an evening of songs and dances rounds out their rich experience in the army. Without elaborate decor or make-up, well-known dancer Chao Chin performs a dance rich in national flavour for the armymen.
