General Hamilton H.Howze, commander in Chief, United Nations command, monday bid farewell to the members?
General Hamilton H.Howze, commander in Chief, United Nations command, monday bid farewell to the members of front line units in a farewell ceremony held at camp Baynet, central front line of Korea about 30 miles north of Seoul.
General Howze will re-leave from his commanding post and depart for United States on June 15 to retire from active service.
In his farewell speech, general Howze said that "No where else, not even in Europe or the Middle East, can one find duplicated the organization of this corps (Group)".He said "It is testimony to the professionalism, devotion to duty, and loyalty to a common cause that in this corps of six and a half division strength one finds standing side by side soldiers of the ROK Army, of the US Army, of the Turkish, and Royal Thai armies." "Heaven knows I hope that you are strong in spirit and body, and equal to the task that may be trust upon you," he continued "You are fit, and the communist enemy whose forces are just a few miles north and west of where we stand is very much aware if it." Concluding his remarks, he said, "I leave Korea with much nostalgia, much affection developed for the country and its forces."
The general reviewed the front line troops in this ceremony and later the troops passed the general's reviewing stand followed by tanks and light airplanes.
