MORE THAN 500 WORKERS OF TWO COMMERCIAL TV AND RADIO STATIONS IN RYUKYU ISLANDS SUCH AS RYUKYU BROADCASTING CO. AND OKINAWA TELEVISION COMPANY DEMONSTRATED IN FRONT OF THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL AND DEMANDED THE ABOLITION OF THE LAW. HOWEVER, THE LAW WAS ALREADY ADOPTED BY THE COUNCIL. JAPANESE SOCIALIST PARTY SUPPORTS THESE OKINAWA PEOPLE'S DESIRE AND PETITION AND BACK THEM UP FOR LONG TIME. THE STATUS OF RYUKYU ISLANDS WILL BE DISCUSSED BY JAPAN - US ECONOMIC AND TRADE MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE AT WASHINGTON, D.C. NOW GOING ON THERE ON WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY AND FRIDAY BY AND BETWEEN JAPANESE FOREIGN MINISTER MIKI AND SECRETARY OF STATE RUSK. MEANWHILE, THE OKINAWA BROADCASTING LAW WILL BE IN EFFECTIVE ON DECEMBER, THIS YEAR SO THAT 940,000 OKINAWA PEOPLE WILL BE ABLE TO SEE THE GOVERNMENTAL TELEVISION TELECAST EVEN IN REMOTE ISLAND, HOWEVER, THEY HAVE TO PAY SUBSCRIPTION FEE. WHAT THE DEMONSTRATORS ARE AFRAID OF IS THAT THEIR FREEDOM OF SPEECH WILL BE RESTRICTED BY THE RYUKYU GOVERNMENT AS THE GOVERNMENT HAS THEIR OWN TV STATION MR. EISAKU SATO, JAPANESE PRIME MINISTER WILL DISCUSS WITH PRESIDENT JOHNSON AT WASHINGTON, D.C. ON NOVEMBER ABOUT THE STATUS OF OKINAWA AND EVERY JAPANESE AND OKINAWA PEOPLE WATCH THIS TALK.
