    An exhibition of several thousand British books on the Arab world opened on Doha, capital of Qatar, on Monday (February 7). The opening was performed by Qatar's Director-General of Education, and attended by most of the British Embassy officials.

    The exhibition -- second of its kind -- was organised by the British Council under the auspices of the Qatari Ministry of Education.

    SYNOPSIS: An exhibition of British books on the Arab world was opened on Monday in Doha, capital of Qatar -- one of the newer independent Arab states.

    It was opened by Qatar's Director-General of Education, who was greeted on his arrival by the British Ambassador, Mr. Edward Henderson. Most of the British Embassy's officials also attended.

    The three-day exhibition, which featured several thousand books on the Arab world, was organised by the British Council under the auspices of the Qatari Ministry of Education. Over a thousand different titles were displayed, and copies were available for sale to the public. The subjects covered included political, social, economic, geographical, religious and historical aspects of the Arab world. They were all written by British authors and published by British firms. (PAUSE TEN SECONDS). A similar exhibition was held in Doha last year, covering scientific works.
