This Shrine to the Goddess who has the attributes of Durga, Lakhsmi and Saraswati of the Hindu pantheon, is situated at over 5000 a.s.l. on the western slopes of Trikutia range in Jammu area. The shrine is inside a Cave which is not more than 8x10 ft. A narrew passage about 100 ft long lands to it. The pilgrims have to crawl through this passage through which flows a fast flowing cold stream. Inspite of this some 2700 persons enter and leave the Cave in 24 hours, round the clock. From the feet of the bill (at Katra termines) people, young and old, healthy and infirm, walk up or ride, making the trip up in 5 to 7 hours. Before entering they a bath in the water of the stream emerging from the Cave. Because of the narrow passage and the smallness of the Cave, Pilgrims have to wait out for hours. It is estimated that every year over 300,000 persons visit this shrine, and pilgrims come from all over India, even abroad.
