    Mr. Hsi Kun Yang, Taiwan's Vice-Minister for foreign Affairs, met Niger's President Diori Hameni in Niamey on saturday (10 June). Mr. Yang, who arrived in Niamey from Dahomey the day before, was on a four-day visit to Niger. He is also President Chaing Kai-shek's special envoy to Africa.

    During his visit with President Diori, 'Mr. Yang was accompanied by Taiwan's Ambassador to Niger, Mr. Lee Nang Hsi. the Vice-Minister told the President that he was expressing the good wishes of the people and the government of Taiwan. Mr. Yang and the President also discussed the furthering of economic cooperation and additional Taiwanese aid to Niger. They also discussed wider problems such as the situation in the Far East.

    On Sunday (11 June), Mr. Yang visited the Saga agricultural project, which was built with aid from Taiwan. A umber of Taiwanese technicians are working at the project, which includes rice fields and irrigation canals. The Vice-Minister discussed the project with some of the Taiwanese personnel working at the project.

    Mr. Yang said the project was a symbol of the close cooperation that existed between Taiwan and Niger.

    During his visit, Mr. Yang also met a number of Niger's leading government figures.

    SYNOPSIS: The Saga agricultural project in Niger was one of the first stops Mr. Hsi Kun Yang, Taiwan's Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, made on Sunday. He was on a four-day visit to Niger and had arrived from Dahomey on Friday. The Saga project was built with assistance from Taiwan and a number of Taiwanese engineers and technicians work there.

    Mr. Yang had already met President Diori Hamani and other leading figures.

    And on Sunday he was able to devote his time to a thorough examination of the project. He was accompanied on his inspection by Taiwan's Ambassador to Niger, Mr. Lee Nang Hsi. A number of technicians also went with Mr. Yang around the site.

    One big feature of the project is a number of irrigation canals which bring proper amounts of water to the crops growing there.

    And one of the crops grown most there is rice. It's harvested and threshed at the project. Mr. Yang said the Saga operation was a symbol of the close cooperation that existed between Taiwan and Niger.

    The day before, Mr. Yang, shown her in the centre, met President Diori for talks in Niamey. With him was Mr. Hsi. The Vice-Minister told the President that he was expressing the good wishes of the people and the government of Taiwan. They also discussed wider issues including the Far East.
