Rhodesian African Nationalist leader, Joshua Nkomo, began a tour of African and European capitals on Monday (10 May) when he visited Nairobi in Kenya.

He told a news conference that there must be no compromise when it came to the majority rue of Zimbabwe (the nationalists' name for Rhodesia).

He said it was a clear, straightforward decision -- majority rule or nothing. Mr. Nkomo said a war was underway and that when he held discussions with the Rhodesian premier, Ian Smith. it was to try and end the war and remove its causes.

Mr. Nkomo's tour follows the breakdown in March of talks with Mr. smith and he told the newsmen it was difficult to talk "to a racialist like Mr. Smith. Possibly after some time when sense was brought back to him, there might be talk. After all, all wars end up on the conference table."
Mr. Nkomo's three-week tour will take him to Uganda, West Africa and European capitals, including London.
