A quarrel between two men and two women set the whole town of San Martin, near Buenos Aires on the move in Argentine recently. During the quarrel one of the contestants threw a kerosine lamp, which missed its target, smashed into the wall and set the shack on fire.
Before long the 3,000 shack dwellers were engaged in a fight to keep themselves and their moveable possessions away from the flames that quickly swept from hut to hut. Due to a lack of water hydrants in the area the firemen had to return to the town centre for water to fight the flames.
With their homes destroyed the residents of the town camped in a nearby field using tents, coats or any other cover available. A few lucky people managed to struggle away with beds and other articles of furniture, and set up 'house' in a field.
Although the flames took little time to wipe out the town there were no casualties.
