Venezuelan Luis "Lumumba" Estaba, world Boxing Council's light flyweight champion, successfully defended his crown against Mexican challenger Leo Palacios in Caracas on Saturday night, 14 February.

In front of his home crowd, the 38-year-old veteran built up a big points lead over Palacios, fifteen years his junior, in the opening and middle rounds.

His lead was big enough to ensure a unanimous points decision, even after tiring in the final two rounds and having to ward off an onslaught by the Mexican.
