    The sixteen-nation Executive Committee of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) opened a four-day meeting in Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa, on Monday (18 November).

    More than 55 delegates attended the conference which was scheduled to discuss the United Nations development porgramme for trans-national projects and the founding of an African Association for the promotion of training schemes.

    The meeting was organised in collaboration with international Development agencies in Denmark, the United States and Canada. It come at a time when ethiopia is striving to overcome the drought and famine situation which exists in the country as a result of several rainless years.

    In the absence of Committee Chairman, Colonel Kwame Baah, the Ghanaian Commissioner for Foreign Affairs, the post was taken by newly-elected Vice-Chairman Dr. W.K. Chagula of Tanzania.

    Africa is not alone its moves to expand training schemes. Earlier this month, a similar conference covering Asia was held in the Philippines. capital of Manila.
