    The Senegalese Minister of Higher Education, Monsieur Ousmane Camara, opened an exhibition of photographs on the Life and Work of the Russian writer, Alexander Pushkin, in the National Theatre in Dakar, Senegal, on Wednesday (26 June). When he arrived at the Theatre, he was greeted by the Soviet Ambassador, Mr. George Ter Gazariants and his wife.

    The works of Pushkin have been translated into 45 languages, and this year is the 175th anniversary of his death. He died young, when he was only 38. He has been described as a man who "heralded the dawn of a new era" by his condemnation of serfdom, and his defence of the rights of the people.

    The exhibition illustrates his life, his poems and his novels. M. Camara said that Pushkin's teachings had importance far beyond the boraders of his own land, and had meaning for the people of Senegal.

    SYNOPSIS: An exhibition is currently on view at the National Theatre in Dakar, the capital of Senegal, which illustrates the life and work of the Russian poet, Alexander Pushkin. It was opened by Monsieur Ousmane Camara, the Senegalese Minister of Higher Education, who was greeted by the Soviet Ambassador, Mr. George Ter Gazariants and his wife, when he arrived.

    The exhibition has been arranged to celebrate the hundred and seventy-fifth anniversary of Pushkin's death. He died young, when he was only thirty-eight, but since the his works have been translated into forty-five languages. Pushkin has been described as a man who "heralded the dawn of a new era" by his defence of the rights of the people.

    The exhibition consists of photographs, posters and pictures, illustrating the poet's life and work. M. Camara said Pushkin's influence and importance stretched far beyond the borders of his own land.
