  • Description

Talks on Berlin between East and West German delegates continued in East Berlin on Wednesday (6th October) with technical experts taking part for the first time. Deadlock last month in a dispute over the translation of the German text of the Four-Power Agreement appeared to confirm wide opinion that technical details being negotiated by the Germans could provide though obstacles. At a meeting in Bonn last week, however, the translation problem seemed solved as Bonn allowed East Germany to keep to its version of the German text, and they in turn conceded that West Germany could negotiate on behalf of West Berlin. The two German states are discussing how best to organise improved traffic links between them. West Germany's special envoy, Egon Bahr, and his East German counterpart, State Secretary Michael Kohl, are heading the talks.
