Takeo village, just outside of the Khmer capital of Phnom Penh, is near the centre of a contested area. Earlier this week, Government troops were still laying down artillery barrages in an effort to dislodge communist forces.
The action has been typical of the see-saw battles still going on in the Khmer Republic.
The area has been contested ever since the communist offensive began earlier this year. Shell-holes litter the countryside near several villages.
Takeo once ??? agricultural village, is now a deserted pile of rubble. Government troops made a survey of the damage this week. They found ??? houses, ruined temples and only charred ruins to mar??? the spot where rows of village houses had once stood.
The few remaining people living in the area are slowly leaving, making their way towards Phnom Penh, already overcrowded with refugees from other areas where the fighting continues.
