Two french couples and a notorious Greek Communist have been arrested by Greek Security Police. The couples are: Marcel and Angella Han of Paris and George and Helene Platande of Dijon. The Greek Communist is Phokion Vettas, chief of the Communist Politburo team working in Greece and who entered the country clandestinely in 1958 to reorganize the outlawed party and spy NATO activities. The two french communist couples arrived in Athens last week-end having as main mission the helping of Vettas getting off Greece. They were planning to take him off the country in their car and with a false french passport in the name of Robert Maussin which they brought from Paris. Both Madame Han and Madam Platande were born Greek, Manenti and Lavrendi respectively. After three days of questioning and complete isolation in the Security Police H.Q., the four French Nationals and Vettas were brought before the Public Prosecutor who charged them with espionage, an attempt to overthrow the regime and forgery of official documents. All will be tried very shortly by an Athens Civil Court.
