Background: President Suharto of Indonesia and his wife arrived in Bangkok Yesterday (Thursday) from Malaysia for a four-day state visit.

At the Don Muang Airport to welcome them were Thai King Bhumibol and queen Sirikit. Embassy diplomats were also present.

In his speech, President Suharto said the existing cordial relationship between the two countries symbolised the friendly relations and co-operation between Bangkok and Djakarta.

During his trip to Malaysia, the President also stressed that his visit was to foster greater friendship between the two nations. Indonesia and Malaysia were virtually at war in the mid-1960s when Sukarno was in power.

While in Bangkok, President Suharto will have talks with government leaders and do some sightseeing.
