THE SULTAN IS LEADING A FIVE-MAN ECONOMIC MISSION, INCLUDING THE MINISTER FOR FINANCE, MR. SUMARNO.

    ON HAND TO GREET THEM ON THEIR ARRIVAL ON TUESDAY (MAY 24) WERE THE JAPANESE FOREIGN MINISTER, MR. ETSUSABURO SHIINA; VICE-PRESIDENT OF THE RULING LIBERAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY, MR. SHOJIRO KAWASHIMA. THE INDONESIAN AMBASSADOR AND THE JAPANESE TRADE MINISTER, MR. ASAHIN.

    THE NEW INDONESIAN GOVERNMENT PLANS TO SEND SIMILAR MISSIONS ALL ROUND THE WORLD IN FIRST MOVES TOWARDS REPAIR OF THE REPUBLIC'S SHATTERED ECONOMY. (THE INDONESIAN FOREIGN MINISTER, MR. ADAM MALIK, WILL SHORTLY GO TO RUSSIA FOR A SIMILAR PURPOSE.)
    INDONESIA'S DEBTS AMOUNT TO ABOUT GBP840-MILLION STERLING OF WHICH GBP2-MILLION IS OWED TO JAPAN. INTEREST ON THE OUTSTANDING LOANS IS ESTIMATED TO COME TO ABOUT GBP166-MILLION -- EQUAL TO INDONESIA'S EXPECTED GROSS NATIONAL INCOME FOR 1966.

    JAPAN IS PREPARED TO GIVE CONSTRUCTIVE COOPERATION TO INDONESIA IN CARRYING OUT ITS ECONOMIC RECONSTRUCTION PROGRAMME.

    (IN HIS FIRST ROUND OF TALKS YESTERDAY (WEDNESDAY), SULTAN BUWONO WAS QUOTED AS TELLING FOREIGN MINISTER SHIINA THAT HE BELIEVED THE MALAYSIAN DISPUTE WORLD BE SETTLED PEACEFULLY THROUGH THE PROJECTED DIRECT TALKS BETWEEN MALAYSIAN AND INDONESIAN LEADERS. THE TALKS LASTED 80 MINUTES. ON SATURDAY (MAY 28), INDONESIAN FOREIGN MINISTER, MR. ADAM MALIK AND MALAYSIA'S DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER, TUN ABDUL RAZAK, ARE EXPECTED TO MEET IN BANGKOK IN A BID TO SETTLE THE MALAYSIAN DISPUTE.)
    MORE TALKS ARE EXPECTED TO BE HELD TOMORROW (FRIDAY) BETWEEN THE SULTAN AND JAPANESE OFFICIALS. SUCH TOPICS AS INDONESIA'S POSSIBLE RETURN TO THE UNITE NATIONS, HER MEMBERSHIP IN THE INTERNATIONAL MONETARY FUND AND THE DEFENCE SHARE OF HER BUDGET, WILL BE DISCUSSED.
