    (IT WAS ANNOUNCED IN ANKARA TODAY (THURSDAY) THAT BAYAR WAS BEING DETAINED IN HOSPITAL BEFORE BEING RETURNED TO JAIL.A CABINET COMMUNIQUE BLAMED THE 80-YEAR-OLD EX-PRESIDENT FOR THE DEMONSTRATIONS AND CLASHES IN ANKARA YESTERDAY (WEDNESDAY).BAYAR WAS RELEASED FROM JAIL ON SUNDAY ON HEALTH GROUNDS.)
    TUESDAY'S DEMONSTRATIONS BEGAN GOVERNMENT SUPPORTERS CONVERGED ON A RALLY OF JUSTICE PARTY (OPPOSITION) SUPPORTERS.POLICE, REINFORCED BY HUNDREDS OF TROOPS, RUSHED TO THE SCENE AND PREVENTED SERIOUS TROUBLE.

    GOVERNMENT DEMONSTRATORS THEN ROAMED THE CITY SEEKING SUPPORTERS OF THE JUSTICE PARTY AND BAYAR.POLICE HAD TO CLOSE BOTH BRIDGES ACROSS THE GOLDEN HORN TO PREVENT STUDENTS ENTERING THE OLD SECTION OF ISTANBUL.

    AT THE SAME TIME IN ANKARA, GOVERNMENT SUPPORTERS STONED THE HEADQUARTERS OF THE JUSTICE PARTY AND THE OFFICES OF TWO PARTY NEWSPAPERS.
