  • Description

Prince Juan Carlos of Bourbon, the man General Francisco Franco has designated as Spain's future King, visited the space communications station of the American National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) at Fresnedillas, near Madrid, on Wednesday (24 May). With the prince was his wife, Princess Sephia.

The 33-year-old Prince Juan Carlos arrived at the NASA station flying his own helicopter. After he'd landed the aircraft, the Prince and Princess were greeted by the ground station's crew.

The Prince and Princess were then taken on a tour around the station and were shown the massive disc antenna by which the installation can communicate with astronauts in space. They were also shown a videotape of the most recent moonwalk.

The Fresnedillas installation is one of three such stations around the world used by NASA to communicate with astronauts. The station is also used for the five-day a week Latin American news exchange satellite.
