    AFTER THE MEETING AT THE ELYSEE PALACE, MR INONU SAID THAT HE AND PRESIDENT DE GAULLE HAD AGREED ON THE "IMMEDIATE NECESSITY OF RESTORING PEACE" IN CYPRUS AND OF FINDING A LASTING SOLUTION AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.

    HE WAS SPEAKING TO REPORTERS AFTER TALKS LASTING NEARLY TWO HOURS WITH THE FRENCH LEADER, WHO EARLIER THIS WEEK SAW THE GREEK PRIME MINISTER, MR GEORGE PAPANDREOU.

    THE TURKISH LEADER ARRIVED IN PARIS ON TUESDAY FROM LONDON, WHERE HE HAD TALKS WITH SIR ALEC DOUGLAS-HOME, THE BRITISH PRIME MINISTER, AFTER HIS DISCUSSIONS IN WASHINGTON WITH PRESIDENT JOHNSON.

    ALTHOUGH MR INONU'S VISIT OVERLAPPED WITH THAT OF THE GREEK PRIME MINISTER, THE TWO MEN DID NOT MEET. WHEN HE RETURNED TO ATHENS, MR PAPANDREOU TOLD CROWDS THAT HE HAD "SUCCEEDED IN MY MISSION OF ENLIGHTENMENT BOTH IN THE UNITED STATES AND IN FRANCE."
