Background: Following a six-day visit to Amman, Jordan, Egyptian Minister of Trade Zakaria Tawfic Fattah signed a commercial agreement with Jordan amounting to GBP12-million on Friday (21 November).

The agreement culminated six days of talks with Jordanian Minister of Trade and Industry Raja'i Al-Muasher.

The agreement was increased during the talks from GBP9-million and will involved the exchange of Egyptian rice for the Jordanian wool and scrap iron.

The two countries have also agreed to set up an Egyptian-Jordanian Navigation Company to operate between Suez and Aqaba.

The first shipload of Egyptian rice is expected to arrive in Aqaba early next month with 1300 tons of Egyptian rice.
