Background: Soccer -- and this year's holders of the European Cup, the English side Nottingham Forest, have been presented with the European Inter-Club Cup. This is the second year in a row that an English club have won the 'European Team of the Year' trophy. Last year it was Liverpool, who had previously won in 1976 as well. The winner of the 1979 'Golden Shoe' award was a top Dutch player.

SYNOPSIS: The presentation was made at the Paris Lido -- one of Europe's most famous cabaret clubs.

Also presented at the ceremony -- on Tuesday (25 September) -- was the famous European 'Golden Shoe' award for goal-scoring, presented by France Football and Adidas.

The European Inter-Club Cup is awarded annually for performances not only in national league matches, but also in the various European competitions. This year, Nottingham Forest finished ahead of another top European team -- Ajax Amsterdam.

One winner of the 'Silver Shoe' award for goal scoring was Thomas Mavros, of AEK Athens.

The second 'Silver Shoe' went to the Hungarian player, Laszlo Fekete, who has played for his national team twenty times. His club is Ujpest Dosza of Budapest.

The 'Golden Shoe' trophy for Europe's top goal scorer went to a Dutch player, Kees Kist. He plays for Alkmaar Az 67, and scored 34 goals last season -- three more than the recipients of the Silver Shoes. Twenty-seven year-old Kist has been top scorer in the Dutch League for the past two seasons.
