Background: Visnews filmed Jan 17 Greek Foreign Minister Averoff leaving Athens Airport for Paris where he was to have talks on Cyprus with Turkish Foreign Minister.
The meeting took on new significance following the British proposal to allow Makarios to return to the island if the EOKA truce became a permanent peace.
The Minister saw Makarios before he left for Paris. Makarios had flown in a few days earlier from New York where he had been pressing Greece's proposals for a settlement.
Averoff also saw Karamanlis before take off. Ostensibly Averoff's trip was to attend the re-opened Free Trade Area talks. But his major interest was in the interview with Mr. Zorlu Jan 18.
Both sides later said the talks were exploratory and satisfactory. The Cyprus problem was not expected to be solved overnight, but observers regarded the meeting as a refreshing improvement in relations between the two countries.
The two Ministers also discussed economic questions affecting them both.
