The annual Shaggy Dog Show took place in Nairobi's Westlands Primary School on Sunday (1 August). Sponsored by the Kenya Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (KSPCA), it proved to be good fun for all who attended.
It is not the usual dog show. Contestants are not judged on grooming, poise, and their pedigree. Rather, the animals are divided into m ore exacting categories, such as the dog with longest tail, the one with the most appealing eyes, the dog most like its owner, and the shaggiest dog in the show.
SYNOPSIS: Sunday in Nairobi was the occasion for the annual Shaggy Dog show, sponsored by the Kenya Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Not the usual kind of dog show, stocked with expensive pedigrees, entries in this show compete in classes such as, the dog with the longest tail.
Rakhsha was the winner of this competition. Other dogs awaited to compete in other categories, such as the dog with the most appealing eyes, and the ones with the longest noses.
This dog came in second as the do most like its owner.
The two most popular categories, ??? Nairobi's Westlands Primary School were Fancy Dress for Dog, and Fancy Dress for Dog Handler.
The best dressed dog turned out to be this dog, in a costume resembling a member of the Women's Liberation Movement. Second prize went to Georgie Best, but the clown kept the losers from crying.
