    THE FIRST AFRICAN COMMANDER OF KENYA'S ARMY, BRIGADIER J.M.L. NDOLO, OFFICIALLY TOOK OVER HIS NEW POST IN NAIROBI YESTERDAY (THURSDAY) FROM BRIGADIER A.J. HARDY, WHO IS TAKING UP A POST WITH THE IMPERIAL GENERAL STAFF, IN LONDON.

    AT A BRIEF CEREMONY AT COMMAND HEADQUARTERS, IN THE KENYAN CAPITAL, THE DEFENCE MINISTER, DR. MUNGAI, WELCOMED BRIGADIER NDOLO TO HIS NEW COMMAND.

    THE PRESIDENT OF KENYA, JOMO KENYETTA, DECLARED THAT BRIGADIER HARDY HAD MAINTAINED A "HIGH DEGREE OF PROFESSIONAL EFFICIENCY, DISCIPLINE AND LOYALTY WITHIN THE KENYA ARMY."
    BRIGADIER NDOLO IS THE FIRST AFRICAN TO HAVE COMMAND OF THE ARMY. PREVIOUSLY A COLONEL, HE WAS PROMOTED TO BRIGADIER SHORTLY BEFORE THE HANDING-OVER CEREMONY.
