    Background: The Egyptian People's assembly gave a unanimous vote of approval on Sunday (13 June) for the 15-year Friendship and Cooperation Treaty signed last month with the Soviet Union. The treaty provides especially for the strengthening of the Egyptian defence capability and the training of Egyptian personnel in the use of modern Soviet Weapons.

    This film shows the Prime Minister and the ministers arriving at the Assembly building, and the assembly itself.

    SYNOPSIS: In Cairo, the People's Assembly on Sunday approved unanimously the Friendship and Cooperation Treaty signed with the Soviet Union last month. The Prime Minister and the whole cabinet attended the Assembly meeting.

    The Treaty provides above all for the strengthening of the Egyptian defence capability, and the training of Egyptian personnel in the use of Soviet weapons.

    Hafez Badawi, the Leader of the Assembly, opened the meeting. The Assembly described the Treaty as an historical document which aimed at backing the Egyptian people's struggle to eliminate the traces of Israeli aggression as soon as possible - and the restore a peace based on justice in the area.

    The Assembly acted in accordance with a report from the Foreign Relations Committee....the report called the treaty "the quickest way to eliminate the consequences of Israeli aggression."
