Background: King Faisal of Iraq, today, opened the first chemicals and drugs factory in the country. Situated in the New Baghdad City, this Company was started in 1954, as an idea of a small group of Iraqi scientists, who wanted to produce the common and everyday drugs and medicines, previously imported, in Iraq itself.
With the aid of several organisations, principally the Union Chemique Belge, plans went under way to fill this essential gap in the country's economy. The product of their work is the present factory which is well equipped with modern machinery and trained personnel. A wide range of oinments and tablets are now produced, using the most up-to-date-processes.
The motto, 'To produce items with assurance of uniformity, safety and efficacy', is adhered to at all times. Constantly check samples of tablets and ointments are made. These samples are analysed for purity, and, unless they conform to the standards set, no product is put on the market.
