    In a ceremony on Saturday (Dec 16), presided over by South Vietnamese General Nguyen van Minh, a newly-graduated South Vietnamese army tank unit accepted 54 U.S. M-48 heavy tanks.

    General Minh presented new colours to the 2nd regiment commander Lieutenant Colonel Bui van Loc after inspecting the troops, and guests and newsmen watched a demonstration of one tank.

    The new regiment, created two months ago, now has 162 tanks of different types. It's the third tank unit in the South Vietnamese Army to get the United States made heavy tanks.

    SYNOPSIS: In South Vietnam on Saturday, General Nguyen van Minh presented the South Vietnam army's newly-formed 22nd Tank Unit with its colours. The ceremony marked the unit's graduation from training and acceptance of fifty-four U.S. M-48 heavy tanks, which General Minh inspected.

    After a tank demonstration General Minh presented the colours to Lieutenant Colonel Bui van Loc, commander of the new unit, and saluted them.

    The unit, which now has one hundred and sixty two tanks of various types, is the third South Vietnamese army unit to get the heavy M-48s. Immediately after the ceremony, the tanks were taken into operation in the Loc Ninh - An Loc area.
