Background: At the launch site is the Soyuz 16 spacecraft. The integrated electrical tests of the spacecraft systems and the test stand are completed.

Now, preparation takes place to transport it to the fuel-loading facility. After loading, the spacecraft will be returned to the stand for final operations. Finally, equipped and loaded, the spacecraft is mated with the shroud and adapter. After mounting the abort rescue system engine and stabilizers, integration with the booster stages begins.

Preflight press conference...the Soyuz 16 Commander Anatolyi Filipchenko and Flight Engineer Nikolai Rukavishnikov told the newsmen about the objectives of the planned mission, the main aim of which is to test the onboard systems modernized according to the joint ASTP requirements.

The booster with the Soyuz 16 spacecraft is transported to the launch area. The rocket booster occupies its place on the launch pad.

The last hours before launch...happy journey.

The bus with the cosmonauts is arriving to the launch area of the site. The crew is ready for the flight. Farewell 'til meeting on Earth.

The crew took their seats in the spacecraft. The spacecraft and booster systems last checks. Few minutes before launch. The last prelaunch commands. The tower is removed.

The Soyuz 16 was launched at 12:40 Moscow time on December 2, 1974. After orbit insertion and damping angular rates...antennas, the target, and solar panels are deployed. The Flight Control Centre began the processing of onboard systems status information that were received and to transmit the commands. The crew began its flight-plan operations.

During the first 2 days, three impulse corrections of orbit parameters was performed, and the planet circular orbit was formed with an altitude of 225 km. The crew checked the life-support system and the attitude- and propulsion-control system in different modes of operation.

The new docking unit and its automatic was successfully tested. Now, you see the process of separating the ring simulating the Apollo docking unit that was done at the completion of the tests.

During the flight, film shooting of the Earth horizon and part of the sky were performed, as well as medical/biological experiments.

The six-day mission program is completely fulfilled. The descent vehicle entered the atmosphere. The parachute system is deployed
On December 8 at 4 minutes past 11, Moscow time,t he descent vehicle softly landed in the planned area. The search and rescue group met the crew when the spacecraft was still in the air.

The crew leaves the spacecraft. We'll meet in Moscow.

The Soyuz 16 test mission, in the frame of preparation for Apollo/Soyuz joint mission, is successfully completed.

ON MAY 22 IN MOSCOW A SUMMARY DOCUMENT ON READINESS FOR APAS WAS SIGNED BY PRESIDENT DEPUTY OF USSR ACADEMY OF SCIENCES V. KOTEL NIKOV AND DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF NASA DR. LOY.

IN TWO HOURS LATER A PRESS -CONFERENCE WAS HELD. WITH A STATEMENT WAS MR. BORIS PETROV, CHAIRMAN OF INTERCOSMOS COUNCIL.

    HE SAID:
    -LADIES AND GENTLEMEN.

IN TWO DAYS IT WILL BE THREE YEARS SINCE SPACE AGREEMENT BETWEEN USSR AND US Was SIGNED IN MOSCOW AS A RESULT OF IT IS APAS.

WE HAVE MADE HAD WORK DURING THIS PERIOD. AND I MUST TELL YOU THAT WORK IS BEEN MAKING IN ATMOSPHERE OF MUTUALITY, IN RHYTHM ACCORDING PLAN OF PREPARATION FOR APAS EXPERIMENT.

    THEN DR. LOY IS SPEAKING
