Background: After breaking off diplomatic relations with the Chinese Nationalist Government - the first Western Hemisphere nation to do so - the Cuban Government September 5 took over the Bank of China, in which the Nationalist China Government is a major shareholders.

Havana's Chinatown was the target several months ago of a Communist Chinese Government campaign to gather names, addresses and occupations of residents. Circulars were sent out in order to bring the Cuban Chinese within 'Overseas China'.

Many Chinese, especially the older men and women, were camera-shy. Our cameraman had to film from a distance, or from doorways, partly hidden.

Seizure of the China Bank was planned by four employees who, in their spare time, are Castro militiamen. Several hours prior to the take-over there was a run on the bank by depositors who had wind of the plan.

Bank officials have said they will hand over the bank to Cuba, but they have orders to resist any attempt to transfer the business to Communist China.
