    The 26th Plenary Session of the Czechoslovak National Assembly was opened in Prague by Chairman Josef Smrkosky in the Spanish Hall of Prague Castle at 9:00 a.m. on September 26th.

    Present at the session were President Ludvik Svoboda, representatives of the Czech and Slovak National Councils, official guests and representatives of the working people.

    On the agenda of the session were a draft law on certain temporary measures aimed at strengthening public order, a draft law on certain temporary measures in the press and other mass information media, the proposal submitted by the National Assembly Presidium calling for a law on the National Front and other items.

    The first speaker to take the floor was Premier Oldrich Cernik who presented a government statement on the current situation and certain necessary measures to be taken to meet it.

    The first to take the floor after Mr. Cernik was President Svoboda who was followed by Mr. Josef Smrkovsky, Chairman of the Assembly and others.

    Mr. Alexander Dubcek, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia also attended the meeting in his capacity of member of the National Assembly.
