Background: Arsenal, playing at home, crushed the English League champions Everton four-nil on Saturday (17 October), to jump into second place in the football league table.
Liverpool club Everton paraded their new young star defender Henry Newton, but he could do nothing to stop the goal-hungry Arsenal.
Their teenage striker Ray Kennedy showed why he is the league's leading scorer with two goals in six minutes. Wing-half Eddie Kelly scored again for Arsenal 20 minutes after the interval, and full-back Peter Storey added a fourth from the penalty spot 12 minutes from full-time.
Everton striker Joe Royle, one of the stars of England's 3-1 victory over West Germany in the mid-week under-23 International was completely blotted out. His name was also taken by the referee in the 85th minute, to add to his and Everton's misery.
